If you read through this blog, you might be forgiven in thinking that I love EA Skate and hate any Tony Hawk games.
This is not true.
I grew up playing the Hawk Series and the roots of any skateboarding game are still firmly footed in the original games from Neversoft.
I will admit, although I have played the demo of Tony Hawk Proving Ground, the most recent title, I do not own the game. I do own the title on the Nintendo DS – and have found it to be not too bad.
I dug through YouTube and found this video demonstrating several of the new THPG game’s features:

I must admit – it still leaves me feeling a little cold. The Nail the trick stuff was cool when it was released in Project 8 but it’s getting a little overkill now.
Also the Hawk series has a underlying theme of violence and crime which may be fun for an in-game experience, but its not very close to the life of real skaters – although the media may see that verdict differently to me.
Personally – THPG is not for me.
Does anyone own EA Skate and Tony Hawk Proving Ground? Which do you play most?

After watching that clip of THPG i have lost all hope for the tony hawk series. The game play still looks to be as unrealistic as ever and the graphics look nowhere near as good in comparison to EA SKATE.. Are the controls the same as ever..??
The controls are just as “button mashing” as before i’m afraid!
Lets wait and see what the next version of the Hawk series brings!
I have owned every version of THPS up to project 8 and have loved them, but after playing SKATE, THPS looks poor. I understand there are more features with THPS and the create park is a brilliant idea, but SKATE would do it better. Not all ramps are placed at perfect 90 degree angles to each other like THPS are implying.
Another key feature i like of SKATE is there is an element of skill. THPS is all about pressing x to jump and direct and square to flip etc, SKATE, you have to move the sticks on the correct direction in a similar way that your feet would go on the board.
I dont like the way in skate you always end up on your arse but it is a much better and entertaining game
