Skate DS

skate nintendo DS

Whilst Skate is available on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Mobile(!) platforms, those of us that perfer a bit of handheld gaming have to rely on the older Tony Hawk fanchise to get our fix.

The Nintendo DS is the perfect platform to port EA Skate to.  With it's touch screen capability, you could easily implement the Flick-it control system with the use of the stylus.  To do an ollie, draw the shape in the circular area on the touch screen and the skater on the top screen would oblige.  When you take the stylus off the screen, the "control cursor" could return to the center which would make the skater go back to a normal posture.  You can steer with the D-Pad and use the shoulder button under your left hand to perform grab tricks.

The graphics would technically not be as polished as the DS's "next-gen" cousins, but if you have seen the latest Fifa 08 graphics on the DS then you can get an idea of what EA could achieve - if they wanted to.

The PSP could also benefit from the same control scheme that is used on the Xbox 360 and PS3, but the analog stick does not travel very far and therefore the physical sensation of controlling the skater with it may not be that great.

EA should not overlook the handheld market.  Frankly, a mobile version of Skate is just bad karma for them.  If I am going to play a skateboarding game on the toilet - then I might as well play it on my DS or PSP rather than my phone!
