EA have not been wonderful and keeping franchises fresh and cool – just
look at the regularly churned out efforts of FIFA or Tiger Woods. They
never get that much better and generally just end up adding more little
tweaks and additions which never amount to much more than the previous
years version!
Here are my thoughts on why Skate 2 will be pants:
1. Walking
I know this was one of the main complaints from the original – but is the ability to get off the board really that important? I think a better version of the ability to set a point to go back to and to be able to do it quickly would be better.
2. Girls
Now – before you get all “you are sexist!” on me – I like girls
But I think their place in a skating game is not something that we should be celebrating. If EA had spent more time adding more pro skaters and better decks and equipment we would be happier! Wouldn’t we?
3. Moving Stuff About
This is a sure sign that the game is turning into a Tony Hawk clone. Sure, it’s fun to move things around and make new jumps to ride on – but seriously – EA Skate was applauded for its originality and back to basics approach! Stick to the game plan EA. Whats next – “Ollie the bum” or collecting hovering letters and hidden tapes?
4. More Tricks
I know everyone wants to be Rodney Mullen and do flatland tricks and flippy finger flips to casper all the time – but come on… The Flick-it controls is the best control scheme available for any type of skateboarding game – ever! It is now going to be more complicated and you will have more buttons to mash until you can pull off the “no-comply finger flip airwalk to fakie” that you asked for. Again – more like Tony Hawk in my opinion. KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid!
5. Handplants
Footplants and no-comply’s = yes. Handplants = No. They are so 1980’s. Get rid of them.

ea skate 2 kicks ass ur gay and a poser dnt talk shit about it tony hawks games suck and are fake and stupid with bad graphics
ea skate is good 2
This game is REALLY good. The physics are realistic and convincing. The added tricks are brilliant and none of them are nessesary to gameplay. The option to be a girl skater opens up different styles and looks. The walking is shocking but it does the job. Moving around objects is innovative and helpful and means you can make yor own spots or challenge others. The game is not EASIER its actually pretty hard for newbies its just ppl who played the first game will find it easy. Oh, and if its not broke don’t fix it. Just be happy with it. Everyone has different opinions…..
You know what sucks? This blog sucks. I’ve never seen so many ads on a blog before. It’s disgusting.
In fact, what you said about skate 2 = so true.
Now the clone is comming out “SKATE 3″ & the kids will love it. No improvement on the physic engine, absoloutly no improvment on frame rate, so PS3 owner will have spike lag while EA will told them “no such thing is true, there is no frame rate problem with our game”. Boring race, boring story line, stupid map like the querry, I mean WTF they were thinking, do you people go skate in pitt?! Retarded impossible huge jump, stupid competition where every stupid ass AI crash on you, WTF! have they ever watch a skate competition, do they know how it work? Apparently not. Stupid AI that will fuck up your line in freeride because WE CANT be alone. I could go on & on, they had a great thing with skate OG and they fucked it up to make it like Tony hawk franchise.
@TransworldSkateboarding and everyone in general really:
Actually the physics on skate 3 are fantastic if you set to hardcore, no more massive ollies out of boardslides and generally just much more direct control over the board. The new tricks like underflips fit naturally with the control scheme and can almost never be performed by accident, even the darkslides are handled with surprising deft.
Apart from that though, I agree, it’s getting really Tony Hawk. I mean ‘Hall of Meat’? Fuck off with that waste of space, time would have been better spent making bails more realistic and adding some really basic stuff like the skater actually standing up again instead of magically re-materialising on the board.
But still, play it on hardcore, play it how you want, it’s still the best skate franchise out there.
